Help Protect The Children! If We Don’t, Who Will?

Since internet safety is personal, let me introduce myself. My name is Michelle R. Yisrael, my friends call me “Amirah”.  I am delighted to profess that I am a mother of two near teenagers, one in the prime of his teenage years, and two new adults.  Other than doing my best to serve God with all my heart, soul, and mind, as He commanded me do; nothing gives me more delight than to watch my children grow into independent and productive members of society trying their best to keep God’s commandments.

The experience of raising two sets of children is common and very fascinating, to say the least.  It wasn’t that long ago that my 25 year old son and 23 year daughter were teenagers.  In fact, it seems like just yesterday.  We got our first computer in 1995, if my short memory serves me correctly. Before that keeping my children safe from predators was as simple as the loyalty of a mindful eye and a targeted ear.Well, as my eye is less loyal and certainly not as mindful as before. Though I studied computer programming in 1977, my near 13 year old son calls those years the ancient days, my once targeted ear has difficulty targeting in on the swelling energy of this computer age.  And yes, he is the one whow needs for internet safety to be an important issue in our house.

As a result, I am fully aware that I need help.  I need a computer-sitter!  I need someone to help me look out for computer predators who lurk about in my control panels waiting to ambush at my teenagers with inappropriate material as they virtuously, I pray, conduct research for a school project.  I need help so that when my near 13 year old daughter leaves out a letter in a word in the web-address she needs she won’t be accidentally directed to some amoral site whose content is not intended for her innocent eyes.

According to their research there is a simple solution to this problem. The organization is working to ensure “a white page” be a requirement as the home page of any adult or pornographic site. You can help make this solution a reality by contacting your state legislation and request a law is passed which requires adult web sites to display a white page as their home page. You can do your part by writing your legislator, often.  Your voice does make a difference.  Also, invite everyone you know that is of voting age to write letters as well.
