Everyone has a viable part in the academic failure of our students. Administrators and the red tape involved in helping our children are a factor. Though there are many teachers who desire to teach and help their students the resources available to them are often lacking. Parents who refuse to do their part in ensuring actively involving themselves in the learning process are at fault. Lastly, students often take the slothful role and do not put in an adequate amount of study time are a factor as well. We all play a vital role. Some of us prefer to point the finger at others instead of doing what we can to ensure the academic success of our young people. The rising school drop out rate is everyone's responsibility, especially those who are in positions that decide which schools and programs are funded adequately. Government plays the most important role in our school drop out dilemma.

"Most children in school fail. For a great many, this
failure is avowed and absolute. Close to forty percent of
those who begin high school, drop out before they finish. For
college, the figure is one in three.

Many others fail in fact if not in name. They complete their
schooling only because we have agreed to push them up
through the grades and out of the schools, whether they
know anything or not. There are many more such children
than we think. If we 'raise our standards' much higher, as
some would have us do, we will find out very soon just how
many there are. Our classrooms will bulge with kids who can't
pass the test to get into the next class.

But there is a more important sense in which almost all
children fail: Except for a handful, who may or may not be
good students, they fail to develp more than a tiny part of the
tremendous capacity for learning, understanding, and creating
with which they were born and of which they made full use
during the first two or theree years of their lives. Why do thy
fail? They fail because they are afraid, bored and confused."

LET'S READ AMERICA - BUY A BOOK

This exerpt was taken verbatim from the "The best selling book that tells why bright children do badly in school."

How Children Fail by John Holt written in 1964. Not one word was changed in this writing.

Did you get the year, 1964...1964...1964?

Now do you agree that we clearly have a problem...,
...And have obviously had one for a long time?
LET'S READ AMERICA - BUY A BOOK

I have another question. Why hasn't it been solved yet?

That statement reads like a statement that could easily have been spoken by one of our top educators yesterday.....but according to the copyright date in the book I have on my shelf....it was 1964!

Realistically, how many of our children will be able to compete in the world of work? Look around you again....this time with a targeted eye? How many will be able to succeed based on spirituality, education, confidence, or just shere 'gumption'? How many?

John Caldwell Holt, born April 14, 1923 died September 14, 1985. He was an American author whose passions was for the education of America’s children. He became a champion for homeschool and a pioneer the civil rights of young people.

"It was 1964 when Holt published his first book, How Children Fail. In this book, Holt asserted that the academic failure of schoolchildren was not in spite of the efforts of the schools, but actually because of the schools. Not surprisingly, How Children Fail ignited a firestorm of controversy. Holt was catapulted into the American national consciousness to the extent that he made appearances on major TV talk shows, wrote book reviews for Life magazine, and was a guest on the To Tell The Truth TV game show.[1] In his follow-up work, How Children Learn (published in 1967) he tried to demonstrate the learning process of children and why he believed school short circuits this process.

In neither book had he suggested any alternative to institutional schooling; he had hoped to initiate a profound rethinking of education to make schools friendlier toward children. As the years passed he became convinced that the way schools were was what society wanted, and that a serious re-examination was not going to happen in his lifetime." Taken from: wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Caldwell_Holt

So, what do we do? Go back to the basic. Each one Teach One

To top it off, those who do make it to college and earn their degree in a chosen field of study, leave college with a debt so large that it exceeds the cost of a mortgage. Not only that, it is a commonality for students to spend many long grueling hours studying and making the grades. They take the personal initiative to ensure they earn good grades in their chosen field of study and they rack up thousands of dollars in student loans doing it. Sometimes these students have student loan debt that go as high as $150,000. Upon graduation, many students have high hopes of landing the perfect job in their field of study to their dismay. There are many students blessed enough to land that perfect job with that perfect new income.
However, according to recent statistics, the number of those who don’t is increasing drastically. A recent study found a 25-year-old student from Florida graduating with a degree in finance working in a retail store in the mall earning less than $20,000. Another 26-year-old student from Tennessee took his degree in communications back to his hometown in California and is earning a meager living in a recreational facility earning a little more than his aforementioned counterpart. There are tons of books written on the subject.
The cost of a 4-year college education has nearly doubled in the last 10-15 years. Further, a bachelor’s degree fails to carry as much weight as it had in the past. In this day and time, and in many fields of study, no less than a master’s degree gets a person to an income level that is sufficient for daily living. While at the same time, student loan costs are compounding the problem for our youth as they rise. Currently, student loan costs are 20% higher than previous years. Not only that, interest rates have nearly doubled as well.
If you or your children are in this financial death trap, there are solutions. One solution, many don’t know is that there are ways that student loan debt consolidation can help. Gulf Coast Financial Associates LLC can help. Andrea Shinn, Senior Loan Specialist for the company is an expert at helping families get out of this death trap stress free.
5 tips to help relieve Student Loan stress
1. If you have a loan in default, simply begin to pay a small amount monthly. Pay the same amount for six consecutive months on the same day of the month and guess what, you will be able to get federal student grants again.
2. Volunteer 1700 hours for an approved nonprofit organization and receive up to $4,000 pay into your student loan account.
3. If you are an educator, you can apply for the teacher forgiveness program.
4. There are financial hardship programs that are available to students who are not yet working.
5. There are deferments as well as forbearance options available.

Eliayannah A. Yisrael, founder of Remaining Humble Productions, is a 23 year old graduate student studying Film Directing at Loyola Marymount University in Las Angeles California. She arrived home for the summer in time to hear the horrifying news about 28 high schools killed in school or on Chicago Transit Authority in route to or from school. Troubled by the news, she decided to do her part to help. Her goal is to teach film to innercity youth at-risk while also pursuing a career in directing.

Here is the concept. Eliayannah A. Yisrael, and her assistants, loving family and friends, are asking that 20 businesses to purchase 10 tickets to be given away to the young people that need it most. Fortunately, you don't have to live in the Chicagoland area in order to support. Information is also posted on the business directory page on this site.

What do you get out of the deal?

A three month post on our website.

"The winds of life blows on all of us, nobody escapes its tumult. What makes one different it how the trials, tribulations, and challenges are handled."

.....Information to Encourage, to Uplift, and to Cleanse.....

There is stress relief and power in faith
We cannot change our past and we cannot change the inevitable, the only thing we can do as we strive to meet our daily needs and desires is to use the one thing that we have that is more powerful than breath. That one thing is faith! It is impossible to please God without it (Hebrews 11: 6).

God is good and worthy to be praiseed! Praise Him through all your circumstances, then certainly,"weeping won't last forever, rest assured that "joy will come in the morning."

                         Relax, Rejuvenate, Refresh

*Pray without ceasing… 1 Thessalonians 5:17

*Put on the garment of praise…Isaiah 61:3

*Then offer the Sacrifice of praise…Hebrew 13:5

Psalms are prophetic but at the same time they can make you feel better and can get you through a tough time.

Try Psalms 143 one of my favorites.

The entire nation has a problem! Cities across the nation are or have already created a Drop Out Prevention & Recovery Department.

Our children are not being prepared for college or the world of work. Increasingly they are being promoted to high school with no real study skills. In many cases they lack reading proficiency as well. Further, too many of our children are not competent in math computation and critical thinking. Consequently, young people who enter high school ill prepared are at-risk of being a part of the growing drop out statistics. Obviously, the problem does not begin at the high school level. In many cases, there is a direct relationship between grade retention and dropping out of school. Increasingly, there are children who graduate elementary school yet never report to high school. To make matters worse, most of these children are never tracked.

Are you convinced yet!

According to the statistics an increasingly growing total of 12,871 young people dropped out of school in 2005 before earning a high school diploma. Given this phenomenon, how many of the large number of drop outs do you think are causing havoc in our streets? How many do you think are making our communities unsafe for our children to play? In view of these growing numbers, how many of these drop outs are causing our senior citizens to feel unsafe and insecure in their own homes?

There is more!

According to the American College Dictionary, gratitude involves joy and pleasure as well as the act of being thankful. Gratitude involves a deeply rooted sense of appreciation for kindness' given and benefits received. It involves a deep pleasure of the mind and senses. It is agreeable, welcomed and refreshing. Gratitude indicates a disposition which expresses thankfulness and appreciation for something received or benefits experienced.

Clearly, then, a warm and deeply rooted thank you is in order. I take this time and this page to show my humble and deeply rooted appreciation to four individuals who were instrumental in helping me to create this website designed to empower children, as many as seemingly possible. I take this time to involve you, the reader in a celebration of gratitude for something received and benefits experienced. I am grateful to be able use my developing home page as a venue for unsolicited public service and to be able to tell the world how Jesus used others to help 'little bitty ole me'. Before I acknowledge His helpers, I first acknowledge The King. I thank Him for His goodness and I thank Him for the mighty acts He unceasingly does for me, my family, and you as well. I thank Him for His humility and I thank Him for His strength. I thank Him for giving me the experience and the knowledge I need to continue to use the gifts, skills, and talents He gave me for the benefit of others.
