Stress Relief for Teachers

God couldn’t have given you any greater job than to help parents steer the future. “Children are our future”, and it takes the dedication of people like you to ensure their success. Jesus said in St. Matthew 19:14, to let the children come to him.

A teacher’s role is difficult! Teacher’s are not allowed to give students the one thing that they need more than anything else; that is God. Nevertheless, a teacher who is Christ-like uses his or her actions as an example for righteousness and truth. Many a soul has been won by merely observing a good role model. Even in the face of the challenges and turmoil that sometimes overtake your days in our schools, the future of many young people has been secured by dedicated teachers who have kept on trying when there seemed to be no hope at all.

“I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me.” Philipians 4:13

Teacher burnout is sheer stress gone too long! Teachers need more stress relief than usual in this day and time. Too many of our youth have no direction and have not been nurtured, therefore; they lack moral and values. As a result classroom management is more difficult.

Stress can be compared to an internal war that has no balance but plenty of reaction. It is mental and emotional strain coupled with fatique and feelings of hopelessness. It is strain caused by fear, worry, and doubt. We are all faced with obstacles, challenges, and hard to handle pressures.

It is physical and emotional strain on our bodies that could threaten our health. The reason for this is that stress can exhaust and even retard our immune system. Not only can life be stressful, but teaching is a job the requires strength of mind unsurrmountable to any other occupation. You have probably heard the old adage that teachers are the reason for every other occupation. Subsequently, you probably know the reason this statement could have truth in it.

For the most part, our school’s have clearly failed our children. Crtiques attempt to force teachers to carry the weight of growing school and student failure. Teachers report that they have a difficulty time actually teaching due to the increasing demands of apathetic administration, reckless parenting , and angry children. How can teachers get stress relief? Teachers have asked:

***Why don’t I have energy?
***How can I reconcile all life’s demands?
***Will I every have feeling of normalcy?
***What do they really want from me?

These are my 10 tips for teacher burnout:

1. Get a clear handle on your stress habits, seek to understand these habits.

2. Make a conscious decision. How will you change these habits?

3. In order to manage your energy, learn to take better care of your body.

4. If possible, bring clarity where there is confusion, and know that you can’t understand everything or everybody.

5. Seek out and discover new perspectives.

6. Practice lifting your own spirits, decide to feel confident and resourceful again.

7. Take the initiative to expand your horizons, find new things to do, new people to meet.

8. Discover what is best for you. What is your right balance?Stay within your boundaries.

9. Be true to yourself. It is not selfish to put yourself first, at least sometimes. Think about yourself at least a sometimes.

10. Detach from work when you leave, and detach quickly. Open the car window, play your favorite music, stop for a cold soda, or take a walk before going in the house. Stop taking your work home so often, take the time to enjoy life better than you ever have before.

Don’t torture your family with the woes of work. It is not fair to neither you nor them. Laugh with your family, talk to them about their day. Don’t relive your bad day all over again. Do whatever it takes in order to refuel and get back to that classroom as fired up as when you first started teaching. You will be surprised at how it will help classroom management.
