In a nation which works under a democratic system, it is understood that the power rests with its citizens. The citizen’s ability to ask the right questions lies at the core of the democratic process. Moreover, the classroom has been described as the cradle of democracy and the teacher as one of the most influential nurturers of the democratic process.

Rest, Recoup, Recover, and Rejunerate

Though I am a strong advocate for student achievement, I also do my part to advocate for teachers. I have been in the classroom with our ‘wonderful’ children for many years and have communicated with their ‘wonderful’ parents. Most teachers love their jobs. Some simply love the joy of seeing the faces of their students light up when “they get it”. Some love the idea of changing the world one little one at a time. Still others merely enjoy the sheer delight of teaching, as they impart knowledge to others. Sometimes though, teachers just merely need a break. They often need time to rest, recoup, recover, and rejuvenate. This down time strengths master teachers and stimulates more creativity and intensifies the pleasure they find in the craft.

The Benefits of Homeschool

Written By Michelle Rhnea — Category: Parenting, Let's Save Our Children

I have coached parents who homeschool their children. Most parents for which I have consulted aim to homeschool responsibly. However, their are some whose responsiblity-aim falls short of their target. This articles describes common benefits of responsible homeschooling as well as 10 tips in which a parent who decides to homeschool should aim.
Parents report that the benefits of responsible homeschool surpasses all educational experiences. In this day and time, a great benefit to homeschool is a parent’s ability to protect their children from the negative influences they may encounter outside the home. With the rise of violence in urban schools these days, this benefit probably surpasses all others. Parents want their children safe. Homeschool parents report that the transfer of their own familial values and belief to their children is the most beneficial of their experiences. Parents report that the ability to address their children’s questions regarding common and everyday challenges and joys of life is a plus.

A Father’s Role in an Adolescence Life

Written By Michelle Rhnea — Category: Let's Save Our Children

Traditionally, in the United States, a teenager spends more time away from their parents than recommended. During these times away they rely heavily on friends for cues, prompts, and signals from peers regarding dress and behavior. When parents have spent the necessary quality time ensuring their teenager has a strong familial foundation, strong spiritual beliefs, positive values, chaste morals, as well as sound plans for the future, the force of peers will be temporary. The scripture instructs us to “train up a child in the way he should go and when he is old he will never depart from it. Proverbs 22:6” In this light, the foundation we provide for our children is the very thing that will strengthen them when they face challenges that are tempting. As I embarked on the journey of strong parenting, I took this instruction as a warning. Not wanting to spend my winter years in the hands of unruly and irresponsible adult children who would cause distress to my aging, I decided early on to do whatever I could to ensure my children were trained and reared rather than merely growing up. There is a distinct difference.

Teacher’s Meditations: It’s Your Life and Your Career

Written By Michelle Rhnea — Category: Remedies For Teacher Burnout, Let's Save Our Children

You were gifted this life by the Creator. It is yours to do with whatever you please. You can choose good or bad. You have the option to choose life or death. You are able to decide what you do and what you accomplish. It is even your option to decide to spend this gift that belongs to you, doing absolutely nothing. You are the only one who can decide to be happy, to be successful, to remain depressed, or to be a failure. You are in charge of being the victim or the victor.

In this recession, everyone is concerned about job security and cutbacks. There are teacher’s with master’s degrees in education standing in lines to work any job in a hotel. It is a blessing to be able to get up every morning, walk into the doors of a school building, be in a position to influence and motivate our youth, and take home a check at the end of the pay period to feed own babies. We are blessed. God gave us the opportunity to be a positive influence on his children, ours and others. He gave us the opportunity to instill skills necessary for young people to become successful and productive members of society to us, in our hands.

Let the Partnership Begin

Parents and teachers agree that there are four key elements a child needs to have in order to be successful.

1. Discipline
2. Respect
3. High self-esteem
4. An understanding of what it is to work hard

They also agree that these four key elements come from home and are enhanced by their experiences at school. Personally, I feel that my role as an educator is to assist parents as they raise moral and academically astute. Teaching cognitive skills is not enough. It is my moral obligation to help parents of students I serve grow into productive and successful members of society.

Though, it all begins at home

Stress Relief for Teachers

God couldn’t have given you any greater job than to help parents steer the future. “Children are our future”, and it takes the dedication of people like you to ensure their success. Jesus said in St. Matthew 19:14, to let the children come to him.

A teacher’s role is difficult! Teacher’s are not allowed to give students the one thing that they need more than anything else; that is God. Nevertheless, a teacher who is Christ-like uses his or her actions as an example for righteousness and truth. Many a soul has been won by merely observing a good role model. Even in the face of the challenges and turmoil that sometimes overtake your days in our schools, the future of many young people has been secured by dedicated teachers who have kept on trying when there seemed to be no hope at all. Children and Stress

Written By Michelle Rhnea — Category: Let's Save Our Children

It’s after midnight and Naomi’s mother hears her in the refrigerator searching for a snack. No wonder she is gaining weight. She can’t sleep, again. Tomorrow is an important day at school. Her 4th grade class will be taking a standardized test required by law. Rumor has it, among her peers that anyone who does not score well on this test will not be promoted to 5th grade. Naomi is different. Her 1st grade teacher helped her to understand that she learns differently from most of her peers.

Not only that, poor Naomi has been the tallest kid in her class ever since she was in kindergarten. Her classmates often call her “The Family Tree”, a name Naomi has grown to hate. There are two new kids in her class. They are twins and they are bullies. They have chosen Naomi as their first victim. Plus, Naomi was frightened out of her sleep by her parents’ fighting three nights in a row. To top it off, Naomi’s gym shoes are too tight, she can hardly run around the gym with the other girls at school, the call her slow. Because at least one of her parent’s fights has been about money, she is afraid to tell them she needs new shoes.

Naomi has drifted off to sleep several times but keeps waking up with questions. Why won’t mommy and daddy stop fighting? Do they know they are frightening me? How can I stay out of the new girl’s way on the playground? What should I do the next time she pushes me in line? Why am I still the tallest kid in class? How can I avoid having to take gym class? Why do I new shoes again? Can mommy and daddy afford to buy a new pair? Will they be mad at me? What can I do to make myself stop growing? What if I don’t pass that big test? What will happen if I can’t do it? (Continue Reading …)
